This Easy Apple Hand Pie Recipe is the quickest way to enjoy a damn good individual no-nonsense apple pie. Made with home-made pastry crust this Apple Hand Pie is gorgeous, quick and easy.
Hello there, hope you are doing great as we commence into this year’s A to Z Challenge. As I told you in my last post I am going to do a Dessert A Day Challenge where I am going to share 26 lip-smacking yet easy dessert recipes throughout April. It’s all going to be a lot of fun – dessert recipes from A to Z! So what do I have on the very first day for A. What do you learn first in your kindergarten – A for Apple B for Banana – I am sticking to that and I do have A for Apple today! I’m going to share an Easy Apple Hand Pie Recipe today which is fresh, quick, homemade and very easy to make. You need fewer ingredients and you can make it ahead if you are serving the hand pies at a tea party. I like this Easy Apple Hand Pie Recipe because they are individual pies, they are rustic and you don’t have to spend much time in decorating them. So let’s find out how we make our Apple Hand Pies.
Pastry Dough for our Easy Apple Hand Pie Recipe
I want to use loads of fruits in my recipes for this challenge because my one and half year old is also a consumer of these! When he sasses me with no-eating-fruit face I use them up in some dessert or bake them. With this apple hand pie, though – he was very happy with the pastry crust!
This is a simple homemade pastry crust using flour and butter. Check my Best flaky pastry dough recipe post for the recipe of this pastry crust.
Apple Filling for the Easy Apple Hand Pie Recipe
This apple hand pie recipe is so laid-back and rustic anyone can make it. All you need is apples, sugar, and a dash of cinnamon for the filling. In a saucepan add in chopped apples and pour granulated sugar on top of it and leave it for 5 minutes. It will turn into a golden caramel apple goodness. Stir in between so that the caramel is not sticking to the bottom of the pan. Add a dash of cinnamon powder – I prefer grating a fresh cinnamon stick – I like the aroma of it.
From here you be creative and add varieties to the recipe with raisins, sultanas, dried cranberries or whatever you like in the filling. Once the apples are soft turn off heat and keep aside.
Arrange the Apple Hand Pies
Roll out your pastry dough on a well-floured work top. Using a bowl make two discs out of the rolled pastry dough. Place one disc on a parchment lined baking tray. Place a spoon full of filling at the center of the pastry dough and cover it with the other discs. Seal the edges around by pressing a fork. Use the fork to make some pokes on top of the pie so that the steam can come out. Give a quick egg wash and pop it in a pre-heated oven. Bake for 15 -20 minutes at 220C / 425F for 20 minutes.
Vegan option
If you want to make it completely vegan, skip the egg wash and give a milk wash to get the golden glow!
How can you serve your Apple Hand Pies?
These little apple hand pies are good to go alone as they are. But if you want to get creative you can serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or a drizzle of maple syrup or caramel syrup. The one and a half men enjoyed just like that – the rustic way.

I love baked stuff! Some day, I really want to try making bread at home. I hate the kind we get in the market here. Are you going to post recipes all through April? Oh man! I am on a weight-reduction diet currently! 🙁

Alas, no recipes on my blog about my developmentally disabled brother in law, although, if I can get my mother in law’s chicken divan recipe in time (my brother in law’s favorite dish) maybe I would post it for “C”. Maybe I’ll do it anyway!
That would be great – ill get to see a new recipe. Thanks for dropping by
I love apple pie. Pinned this! I am the most terrible crust maker – but perhaps, when I retire, learning how to make good pie crust will be on my bucket list.
This is a delicious post, Tina. I made apple crumble yesterday and am a huge fan of anything that involves fruit. Looking forward to reading the entire A to Z desserts. What if I don’t want to use egg? (referring to the egg wash).
Hugs! How joyful when your little one enjoys what you make!
I love desserts with fruit too Vidya and there will be many more desserts with fruits in this challenge. You can skip the egg and brush some milk. Thanks for dropping by
I am craving for apple pie now and it is my family’s favourite. I love any dessert with cinnamon. This looks like an easy recie. Will surely try.
I’m a big fan of using fruits in baking and apples top that list because family loves the Apple pie and the Apple crumble to the crumbs.
Those gorgeous pictures have tempted me to bake an apple pie over the weekend, love your mini pies that could make for a delightful snack for kids and are so much easier to make than the traditional pie.
I’d be around all month, checking out your daily dessert posts.
Good Luck, Tina!
I loved the recipe .Now hopping over to the pie crust to check it out.Looks like the best way to bake and not add to the waist line

Absolutely Bang on Chef……that looks so “doable” for somebody like me who cannot be too adept in the kitchen. But I am going to try this with different types of stuffings. what say?
Aww…looks yummy n sumptuous…will try this recipe
Tina I just died, died died. Went to heaven, went to heaven, went to heaven. I have drool all over my face and keyboard. If your A post is so sumptuous, I don’t know what we are headed for in the next 25 days. I loveeee apple pies, and desserts, but I’m trying to cut down on sugar. So this is going to be a tough A-Z challenge, with such delectable pictures and recipes, but I guess time to test my will power and I’ll make do with my cravings virtually 🙂
