Have you ever tried making ice-cream without an ice-cream maker? It’s a whole lot of mess. It doesn’t set right, or you are going on churning it forever. I hate so much work in the kitchen! This Frozen Banana Ice-cream is easy, quick and without all that fuss. And it doesn’t taste like baby food. You need just three ingredients – frozen bananas, honey and butterscotch – that’s it! This is a kid friendly dessert recipe – dairy free, sugar free. And you have the goodness of banana too.

I recently got the Preethi Turbo Chop by Preethi Appliances and I wanted to use and review it. It does great chopping in seconds. I have chopped carrots and beans for fried rice in it and it takes what – 5 secs? Yes that fast. It has 450 W power and stainless steel surgical blades to break down your vegetables or even meat in seconds. I love the design because the motor is actually on top and there isn’t any switch or speed level for it. It simply does everything in the blink of an eye. You just need to press the top part – that acts as the switch!

I made this Frozen Banana Ice-cream in Preethi Turbo Chop by Preethi Appliances. It has four parts – motor, blades, jar, and a protection lid. Assembling the Preethi Turbo Chop is extremely easy and the best part is every part is removable. I find it very handy and extremely useful when you need to make something quick – unplanned!

How to make Frozen Banana Ice-cream?

I can’t even begin to write how easy it is.  Get a few ripe bananas. Those ugly blackish bananas are really sweet and make this ice-cream taste awesome. Slice them roughly and pop in the freezer for 3 hours. Take them out and blend in a food processor or a blender which has high power. Those hand blenders will not work for this recipe. The Preethi Turbo chop is 450 W chopper and suits perfectly for this. Since its bananas and they are meant to be a gooey slime goodness the chopper fits the bill for me.

Blend it nicely for a few minutes. Scrape the sides in between and blend again. Your food processor jar will be chilled by this time! When the banana has become creamy add in a generous drizzle of honey. When I say generous, I mean really generous, not just 2 teaspoon kind of generosity!! Honey is better than sugar, mind you. Blend for a few seconds.

I am adding these readymade butterscotch chips in the frozen banana ice cream. This makes the dessert recipe pretty easy. If you can’t find any, you can add in chocolate chips too. You can in fact get really creative with banana ice-creams once the base is ready! Pour them in and blend again for 2-3 seconds. You don’t want the butterscotch chips to be blended completely. The unevenness will add a great texture in the mouth.

This is how it’s going to look like – creamy, soft and yum.

Preethi Turbo Chop – My Views

I think it’s a super handy appliance you can have in your kitchen. It’s handy, its fast and its powerful and comes at an attractive price point of INR 1994. It saves a lot of time and effort just when you are not in a mood to chop up vegetables for your food. You can mince meat, you can chop garlic – and not paste it as what happens in a mixer grinder.

Is everything good? Any Cons?

I don’t know if I call it a con per se, but it chops really finely in small bits. If you want rough chop, or slices / juliens then you have get your good old knife out!

How to serve Frozen Banana Ice-cream?

You can serve it right away. It will be creamy, gooey and soft. But if you are like me who likes really chilled stuff then you can pop it back in the freezer for an hour or two and then scoop out. That way you will get perfect ice-cream scoops and no chance of it feeling like a mashed banana equivalent!

  1. I don;t like Banana and butterscotch. I don;t like anything other than chocolate for ice creams. But I know P would love this! So yes, I will definitely give it a try. Nothing beats freshly made ice creams, right? I look up to your dessert recipes, Tina and that’s a great review as well. 🙂

  2. This looks super duper yummy! I’m gonna make this as soon as possible! Thanks for this recipe and also about the chopper! Nice tip.

  3. Yes, I do make ice cream without an ice cream maker – just a knife to cut the fruit(soft fruit, of course, such as bananas) and my most advanced piece of technology, an electric hand mixer, though I’ve used the manual one occasionally. I’ve never had any problems. I don’t do the churning thing or remove it from the freezer to churn again. It tastes fine. 🙂

I have heard about basic frozen bananas from my sister, who does have an ice cream maker, but not tried it yet. I guess if you’re going to add ingredients such as butterscotch chips you would need to do all the extra stuff. Mostly, I mix the fresh bananas with whipped egg white and a bit of caster sugar. If I want something more interesting, I mix the egg white with whipped cream and add vanilla essence or, in one case, melted chocolate, glacé cherries and Countreau. Yum! 🙂

  4. I need to get the banana smell out somehow . My daughter loves the fruit ,but the smell in deserts makes her turn up her nose. Will try this out.

    1. Amrita, you can add little extra flavoring to cut down on banana smell if she doesn’t like – things like vanilla, chocolate, caramel can be used.

  5. Ah ha! Banana ice cream! You covered it today! 😀
Hahahaha! I still remember the catastrophe I created in my kitchen, in the name of banana icecream!
I know you say it doesn’t taste like baby food, but… once bitten, twice shy! 😛
I really love how you take these food pics, Tina! I am a fan! Learning so much.
    Happy AtoZing!

    1. Kaddu – you dont need to be shy this time. When you do a banana ice cream with nothing else it tastes like mashed banana – because that is what it is. But when you add things like honey, butterscotch or chocolate or anything else it makes it taste yum. Try this and do let me know.

  6. This is quite a no-fuss recipe. I have a few frozen bananas sitting in my ref. I was hoping to make banana smoothie or yoghurt but this sounds tempting. Lemme give this a try.

  7. Hey Tina,

I am loving the recipes you are sharing with series. I personally love Banana as a fruit, Banana muffins and will definitely give this Icecream a try.

  8. now if only Preethi Turbo Chop had an nicer name, it does sound like it does the job perfectly.

I’m not a fan of bananas but this looks tasty. perhaps subsitute banana with something else?

    have a lovely day.
