Almost everyone is aware of how amazing nuts are for you as part of a healthy diet, but this tends to be off set by the knowledge that they are also very high in fat. Yes, itβs good fat (great fat even), but it is still fat, and we are still only just coming out of a world where all nutritionists told us that fat was bad. Now we know better, that not all fats are bad, in fact some, like the ones found in nuts, are actually pretty good for us. As long as we donβt go overboard.
If you find raw nuts a little too bland to chew on, you can look at roasted which can change the flavour of some nut varieties, however try to avoid salted, seasoned or sugared varieties of roasted nuts, as these additives generally counter the nutritional value of eating nuts.
Nutty Butters
Most people are familiar with peanut butter, however increasingly popular with foodies, and becoming more familiar with the general population are the various types of other nuts that can be made into butters. Cashew and almond are two of the most popular types of nut butters, because they are incredibly versatile, far more so than peanut butter, as they have a more delicate flavour so are easier to enjoy with a variety of foods as well as just as a snack with a spoon, of course. Theyβre also available in easy to use almond butter packs, and easy is a key component for any snack-able food.
There are a huge number of nut butters available, in fact almost any nut can be turned into a butter, from walnut to pistachio, with each having their own flavour just as the raw nuts themselves.
However, beyond peanut butter, Almond is perhaps one of the most popular and versatile options for nut butters.
Benefit Of Almond Butter
Almond butter has become popular not simply because it is a low allergy substitute to peanut butter, but also because is generally has higher fibre content, as well as more calcium, potassium, manganese and iron. Although you should read the ingredients, you will generally find that Almond butter has no added salt, sugar or preservatives.
Almond butter is high monounsaturated fats, and a recent study looking at diabetes and the consumption of fat has said that the βfat quality is more important that fat quantityβ https://spectrum.diabetesjournals.org/content/29/3/171. This is one of the reasons why almond butter is considered to an excellent choice to include as part of a healthy diet.

If youβre just new to the idea of upping your omega-3 consumption, and trying to get healthier fats into your diet, you may find it a little difficult to think of how to include almond butter, or any nut butter, other than on bread. However, as many people are trying to reduce the amount of carbohydrates, or at least bread, that they eat, you probably want to expand your horizons.
Look at almond butter in single serve packs for on the go easy snacks. There are lots of flavoured options, but try to go for a naturally sweetened option, preferably with no preservatives or other nasty.
Getting the almond-butter pack rather than a full jar means that you have an on the go snack that you can take with you to work or after school activities easily. Of course it can be smeared on to crackers, with a range of high nutrition grain and grain free versions around these days, but it is also an excellent option to enjoy with fruit or raw vegetables.
If youβre feeling a little more adventurous, try mixing with a bit of cream cheese and enjoying with a sweet fruit like crisp pear. With or without the cream cheese it is good with carrots and celery. It also makes a really quick and easy smoothie, no blender required. Mix a berry flavoured natural yoghurt with almond butter for a great pick me up and protein boost, you can mix in a ripe banana if you have one as well, just stir well with a fork and you can make a smoothie to counter your 3pm fade.
A jar of nut butter may be great at home, but when youβre in a shared office kitchen, you need almond packs.
